How to Make Cardboard Guinea Pig Jumps

Triangle cardboard jump for guinea pigs.
Circular cardboard jump for guinea pigs.

These jumps are cheap and relatively easy to make but still do a great job of being sturdy and safe for guinea pigs. Plus, with a bit of paint, they can still make eye-catching jumps and look like so much more than just a few pieces of cardboard glued together. These jumps make great additions to an agility course or can simply be used on their own to teach a guinea pig to jump over.

Tools & Materials Needed For This Project

-Scrap cardboard
-2 toilet paper tubes (only needed for circular jump)
-Hot glue gun and hot glue*

*Note: You can use tape instead of hot glue to put the jumps together, but hot glue is preferred as it is tidier, stronger, and easier to paint over.

How to Build a Triangle Cardboard Jump for Guinea Pigs

Step 1

Cut out three pieces of cardboard – one larger piece about 8 x 4 inches and two pieces 8 x 2.5 inches.

Step 2

Glue one of the smaller cardboard pieces onto the biggest piece, with the smaller piece angled in towards the middle.

Step 3

Glue the third cardboard piece opposite to the last piece to form a triangle shape on the base.

Step 4

Glue these two pieces together at the top.

Step 5

Glue an extra line along the edge of the base for extra strength. Do this on both sides of the jump.

Step 6

Tidy up and cut off any excess cardboard sticking out from the base.

Step 7

Paint in the color(s) and pattern of your choice.

Optional – Add Wings to the Sides of the Jump

If you want something more challenging for the guinea pig, you can leave the jump as it is.

If your piggy is new to training, or if you want to use the jumps in an agility course, adding wings to the jumps is a good way to guide the guinea pig and encourage them to jump over without going around the jump.

To make wings for the jump, cut out two cardboard squares (approx. 3.5 x 3.5 inches) and glue one piece onto each end of the jump.
